If you want to run out and pick up some products locally, I recommend trying the following:

- Drugstore: L'oreal out of bed weightless texturizer (black tub, use under gel), LA Looks or Herbal essences gels, Suave naturals or vo5 conditioners, L'oreal vive pro hydra gloss for dry hair or nutri gloss for curly hair, red Cream of Nature shampoo

- Organic/specialty store (like whole foods): Giovanni Direct Leave in condish, Giovanni Triple Tea Treat shampoo, G conditioners, Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose or White Camellia Conditioners, AO B-5 Design gel

- ULTA: Devacurl products, Biosilk rock hard gelee, MOP-c curl defining cream (They also carry drugstore products and giovanni.)

These are all good things I have used, but be sure to tinker around with amounts and how you use any products. For hair type specific products check out these forums:

There you can find others with the same hair type and try out some of their favorite products. However, the most popular ones are usually only available online.

Here are some basic tips for curly hair that you might find helpful:

*Try to find a stylist who knows how to work with curly hair. You can find reviews by region here: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlsalons

*Don't shampoo every day.

*Comb conditioner through hair in the shower.

*Apply styling products to dripping wet hair. Scrunch or twirl hair to achieve desired shape. A leave in conditioner under gel is generally good.

*Avoid terrycloth towels on hair; use linen, paper towels, or t-shirts instead.

*Try plopping to decrease drying time: http://www.wikihow.com/Plop-Your-Hair

*Air dry or use a diffuser with your blowdryer.

*Don't touch (or brush!) your hair while it鈥檚 drying.

*Once completely dry scrunch out any crunchy texture.

Lastly, it has made my hair so much better since I started the curly girl method! I used to almost never wear it down (it was a frizz/poof ball), but now I have pretty, shiny curls. ~:) It鈥檚 pretty radical鈥攏o sulfates (shampoo) or silicones鈥攂ut it鈥檚 so great for curly hair. Pantene Curl Hydrating Products. They are so effective I don't even need the mousse or gel to define ringlets or control frizz. The conditioner is essential for my frizz and it actually defines my hair naturally into spiral ringlets, nothing more than combing and airdrying. I do use the mousse sometimes but lately found just shampoo and conditioner and a big help has been leaving it up in a towel longer before combing in out wet, (with a really wide toothed comb) I never brush it. I also tried not rinsing out all the conditioner completely. I also like Clairol Herbal Essences - for Dry/Damaged hair, in the pink/rose bottles. They aren't as excellent as Pantene. I notice hair shedding a ton on Pantene so stopped for a while. I have to use it if I want controllable hair however so when all else fails I go back to pantene, but only the ones for curly hair.
